Volume 04, Issue 12
Book Review
By Virginia Herring, LMT
These three volumes are an excellent review tool to help students prepare to take the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCETMB). The format in each volume is set up in the same way: questions with the choice of answers in a multiple-choice format. Everything you should know as a massage therapist or bodyworker is covered. The answers for each question are included in the back of each volume.
Volume 1 contains 951 questions related to human anatomy, physiology and kinesiology on both Western and non-Western massage. The areas covered include major body systems and the location and functions of these systems, including the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic, immune, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems. Also covered are questions related to the cranialsacral system, biomechanics, kinesiology, and basic medical terminology. Questions relative to non-Western massage pertain to traditional Chinese medicine, primary meridians, organ physiology, extraordinary meridians, five-elements theory and other energetic systems.
Volume 2 covers 492 questions as they related to clinical pathology and recognizing various conditions in the body's major systems listed above. The 492 questions in Volume 3 are related to massage therapy and bodywork in the areas of theory, assessment and applications, professional standards, ethics and business practice. The questions contained in these volumes will help you to identify any specific weaknesses.
Additionally, Dr. Leonardi includes a list of books on a variety of topics. Since these books are set up in a similar fashion to the NCETMB, you will benefit from practicing for the exam under timed conditions.
Virginia Herring's Rating: 10 out of 10
