College Study Tips by Staff of www.SEPBOOKS.com We have found that creating a study schedule is an important element for achieving good scores on exams. This forces one to make studying a priority each week. For every 2 hours of lecture time, that subject should get at least 1 hour of study time that day. For example, if one's college biology class meets for 2 hours on Monday, one should study 1 hour of biology also on Monday. Therefore, if one's college biology class meets again for 2 hours on Friday, one should study biology for 1.5 hours on Friday also. In total, if one takes a four credit hour biology class (meets for four hours per week), one should dedicate at least four hours per week of study time to that subject.
Achieving good grades is mostly related to how well a student can remember a chosen subject area for the test. The more one studies the subject area, the easier it should be to recall the correct answers on the test. So, for the most part, whoever remembers the most usually gets the highest grade on the exam.
To sum up, if a class meets for 1 hour of scheduled time per week, one should study at least one hour per week for that class. If a class meets for 2 hours of scheduled time per week, one should study at least two hours per week for that class. If a class meets for 3 hours of scheduled time per week, one should study at least 3 hours per week for that class. If a class meets for four hours of scheduled time per week, one should study at least four hours per week. If a class meets for 5 hours of scheduled time per week, one should study at least 5 hours per week for that class. If a class is cancelled or shortened for a particular day, make sure to use the extra time to study. If one has 20 hours of total scheduled class time per week, one should study for at least 20 hours for that week. Term papers should not be included as part of one's study time. Therefore, if a class has a requested term paper, one should just add more time that one has to devote to the class in addition to the study time.
Finally, it is always up to the student to decide how much study time one needs to attain the good grades.
